The World’s shortest international flight is only 8 minutes and this is an Austrian airline from the eastern Swiss city of St.Gallen to Friedrichshafen, located in southern Germany. The trip is 8 minutes and over a distance of 13 miles long with an expected launch cost of US$45, about 40 Euros.

The business model promoting The People’s Viennaline, the Austrian airline running this schedule is based on helping passengers travel to nearby Cologne, where there is a larger airport. Before the launch, the record holder for the shortest international flight was a Vienna-based airline, FlyNiki. The firm runs a flight from the Austrian capital to Bratislava, its Slovakian counterpart. The 10 minute service flies passengers almost 30 miles.

In contrast to the shortest airline trip, the arguably longest trip by air in the world takes off from Dubai of United Arab Emirates to Auckland in New Zealand. The journey takes about 17 hours and 15 minutes. Since 1st March 2016, this has become the longest non-stop scheduled airline flight by Emirates air with flight number EK448/EK449. The journey is over a distance of 14,200km.

Prior to the Emirates run to Auckland, Qantas held the record flying 13,730km between Dallas-Forth Worth in the U.S and Sydney, Australia. Similarly, Emirates announced they would begin operating non-stop flights between Dubai and Panama City on 1st February 2016. The flight distance will be about 14,000km and run for 17 hours 25 minutes.

There was a proposed non-stop flight by Air India to link the two IT hotspots in San Francisco and Bengaluru but that proposal seems to have just stayed that way, as far as I know. Perhaps anyone with an idea of what became of it may hint of it through the comments section.
