Oppo, a Chinese device manufacturer successfully does it again. What it is this time is a rollable concept handset. Yup, you saw it before, on the moving picture – Minority Report. Oppo isn’t the first company to realize this idea for a handset form factor. TCL showcased a similar prototype earlier in 2020, although it was nonfunctional. Oppo, however, is a much more experienced smartphone manufacturer with access to a hugely advanced supply chain. It’s got some quirks but seems to present a pretty interesting take on an alternate to folding phones. For those who have followed Oppo, you’ll also note that this is a company that will also bring such prototypes to market. This company doesn’t mock around with its prototyping.

The Oppo X 2021 rollable phone concept can expand its 6.7” display to 7.4” thanks to a rollable screen panel and a motor-powered sliding mechanism to unroll it. It’s an impressive tech demo, once more demonstrating the technical capability of Chinese device manufactures who are amalgamating new technologies from all over the world to push the limits of our imagination on smartphones. But will this be a mass-market appeal?

Here is a peek of the unveiling of Oppo X linked below.
