Wechat is a competing app in the OTT space. It’s outsted QQ in many ways by focusing on light weight app that promises simpler and yet easy use. It’s mindshare quickly grew to the international market through it’s friendly international interface.

Recently it added the capability to translate directly within the app. This means chatting with foreigners is now an easier mode there promoting a lot of business contacts to use the platform. It also boasts of a simple module that is tightly integrated for sharing status updates – moments. It offers a very smart user interface with continues updates that beat what competitors like Whatsapp and Viber have to offer.

On Wednesday, Tencent Holdings Ltd, China’s largest listed Internet company, announced that WeChat had 438 million monthly active users during the second quarter of 2014, up 10.6 percent from 396 million the previous quarter.

But WeChat’s quarter-on-quarter growth rate is notably flattening compared to last year.  In 2013, active users grew between 15 percent and 30 percent, compared to the 11.6 percent and 10.6 percent gains registered in the first two quarters this year, said the Sohu report.
